Confessions of a New Mom

Guys, I am LIVID! I keep telling my baby bean to stop growing but he REFUSES to listen! He will be five months old in one week and I cannot believe where the time has gone! I wanted to share my confessions as a new (and single) mom.

Here we go:

Life: My life has been enhanced!!! Mom life is THEE best life hands down! I still manage to get shit done and do things that I love, but my priorities have changed for the better and so has my time management. When I was pregnant, I was petrified knowing that I would have a mini me with me forever...okay not forever, but for a while. I am the type of person that prefers being alone versus always being with a group or around another person all the time....I have always been like that since I was a child. The adjustment was not bad at all! In the beginning I just had to constantly remind myself to grab the diaper bag or to always have two or three extra pairs of onesies just in case he had a blow out. You know that statement, "Oh your maternal instinct will kick in." It's true. I thought I would not get this mother thing down, but honestly, a switch just went off when E was born and I am loving life more than ever!

Body Image: At five months postpartum, I am loving my body even though I am still not at my ideal weight with zero muscle. On the downside...I am starting to lose clumps on clumps on clumps of hair. I feel like I could have made a couple of wigs by now at the rate I am shedding...if only I could shed the baby chub as fast as my hair. Now for everyone's favorite, STRETCH MARKS! I do have stretch marks on my stomach, however, they have lightened up a lot. I am not going into too much depth about how I deal with stretch marks because I plan to whip up a detailed post on my daily routine within the next week or so. For soon to be new mamas, it will be hard to gather the strength and energy to dress up let alone put makeup on at times. I had days where I said eff it and didn't put a brush through my hair because I just about had it. BUT, it is SUPER important to at least dedicate five minutes to yourself. Whether it is putting on makeup, curling your hair or putting on a dress that makes you feel like a goddess. You have to dedicate at least five minutes to you. I found the days that I felt like crap were the days I dressed like it. Although it seems like it is time consuming to get ready, it will change your mood completely. Look good feel good is my motto!

Challenges: Every new mom has her own unique challenges. As a single mom, I am blessed to have an amazing supportive family that helps me out through thick and thin.  I am fortunate enough to have an AMAZING baby and no, I am not saying that because he is my baby. I will say at four months, Elliott decided that he was going to throw mommy off and not stick to his sleeping routine which was ROUGH. He went from waking up once at night (typically at 2-3 AM) to waking up twice (2-3 AM and then 4 AM)! I know I sound ridiculous to some moms out there who deal with waking up every two hours...but hey, like I said, every mom has her unique challenges. Aside from that, I honestly haven't had anything major to deal with!

Moments: Elliott now enjoys sticking his tongue out, eating his and other people's hands and saying his "mmm" and "b" sounds. His laugh guys, it will melt your heart. He laughs hysterically when you play peek-a-boo and whenever Elmo comes on. His favorite food of the moment are green beans...and speaking of beans, E loves to jump with all of his might like a jump-a-bean in his jumper. E loves to pet the dog and cat and he still doesn't care for my dad's mustache. Elliott is super duper quick and loves to flip from his tummy to his back and vice versa. E can move his eyebrows like mommy and always has a smirk on his face while holding his hands together like he is plotting something.

UGH! I feel like I am Peter Pan's ambassador...Elliott, bean, don't grow up.

Four Months Postpartum

I feel sexy. Stretch marks, a larger waist and all, I. feel. sexy!

The past four months have been a constant body battle! As stated in THIS POST, I would be lying if I told you I was always confident with my postpartum body.  I am still on a mission to reunite with my abs, but I am in no rush to kill myself in the gym anytime soon. Although I am slowly gaining elasticity back in my tummy area, that doesn't stop me from strategically showing off some midriff in this Bay Area heat (check out another postpartum midriff outfit HERE). I cannot wait to dive more in depth with my postpartum journey later on this week! Side note, I scored this vertical stripe skirt for twelve bucks!!!

15 New-Mom Must-Have Essentials

The past three months have been trial and error when it comes to finding what works for Elliott. It was a complete headache when I was creating my registry. Between reading up the reviews, testing out the products and researching to see if any of the products I had liked had recalls was time consuming. So with that being said, I wanted to create a short and sweet list of my favorite baby essentials for the new mommy's out there!!!

1. Uppababy "Mesa" Car Seat - At first Elliott hated this seat (he hates being confined). But honestly, this car seat is great! It is easy to install in your car and into the stroller. Another plus, super easy to clean!
2. Uppababy "Cruz" Stroller with Bassinet - I was debating with the Uppababy Vista and I am so happy I went with the Cruz that is more compact. It is easy to fold up, it's not heavy and it provides Elliott a smooth ride. All of the seats are rear or front facing. The only complaint with the stroller is that when you insert the carseat or bassinet into the stroller base, it is hard to access your items (bags) in the storage underneath. The bassinet was the perfect size for Elliott who is super tall (born at 9 pounds, 21.5 inches long).
3. Seventh Generation Diapers - I tried cloth diapers, Honest diapers and Babyganics diapers and ended up being satisfied with the Seventh Generation brand. They are chlorine free, absorb A LOT and Elliott had very few leaks!
4. Munchkin Bottle Cleaner - My bestie got this bottle cleaner for me and my goodness, this is a life saver!
5. Little Remedies Gas Drops - Elliott was super gassy whenever I ate dairy (I am now dairy free). These gas drops worked like a charm and he didn't spit out so I am assuming the taste isn't too bad.
6. Dekor Plus Diaper Pail - Elliott's changing table is in my room so of course, the diaper pail is right next to it. Thank God my room doesn't smell like poo and it is all because this diaper pail has an anti odor interior that eliminates the stink. The only complaint I have, I wish it was bigger.
7. Babyganics Wipes - I like the amount of moisture and how big these wipes are.
8. Munchkin Wipe Warmer - What a God send! When Elliott is half a sleep at night, the last thing I want to do is startle him with a cold wipe.
9. Jollypop Pacifier - I got a handful of these pacifiers when I was in the hospital. He loves them so why change it up?
10. Fisher-Price Swing - This is the only chair Elliott loves! Elliott would cry in any other seat except for this one. I am kind of freaking out inside because he is growing like weed and will out grow this swing soon :(
11. Gaga Busy Buddy Giraffe - Elliott's favorite toy in the whole wide world. The wood teething rings on the giraffe is his favorite and he enjoys the crinkly noise it makes!
12. Wood Teething Toy - Elliott started teething at two and a half months. Crazy, I know. He loves chomping on wood.
13. Activity Gym - Perfect for hand-eye coordination and for tummy time!
14. Munchkin Latch Bottle - I switched the bottle on him and oh my goodness, Elliott had a fit! This is his favorite bottle when I want to feed him milk that I had pumped.
15. 360 Ergobaby Carrier - As a single mom, it can get hard to get stuff done around the house when you don't have an extra hand. This carrier is THE BEST! Great support for Elliott and I and easy to put on and take off.

Hope I gave you enough insight! Enjoy!

At 11:45 PM on March 24th, 2016, I met the love of my life. The process to meet him was not what I had expected, but was worth every second.

Baby is Overdue: Now What?

Side profile of baby E! His  right hand is covering his eyes :)

Ok, this isn't cute or funny anymore. My little one is officially 12 days overdue making me 41 weeks and 5 days pregnant. On Tuesday the 14th, I was told that I had an "unfavorable cervix". An induction was scheduled on St. Patricks Day, and as tempting as it was to finally meet my son, I wasn't comfortable proceeding.

Dressing the Bump: In December

At 26 weeks pregnant, my obligation to wear color, let alone jeans have went out the window. It has been an enthralling situation to dress myself each week....especially now since I have never weighed this much in my life (18lbs up!). As much as I am relishing the last bit of my second trimester, the added pounds are making me just a tad awkward and muddled when I approach my closet.

My Pregnancy Experience: First Trimester

"Thank God I don't have kids" said me 26 weeks ago....literally 26 weeks ago. Now let's rewind back to when I didn't know I was pregnant. I was a 24 year old newly single young lady who just walked the stage in San Diego with a Master's in hand. I was on cloud nine and I had my whole life planned out....

Dressing the Bump in November

Did November really happen? Although it went by quickly, so much occurred during this wonderful month. I broke my favorite pair of AG jeans (not so wonderful), I turned 25, my brother turned 22, my parents celebrated 23 years of marriage and I ate a ton of stuffing and mash potatoes!!! I am officially 15 pounds up and no, it is not ALL from Thanksgiving :)

Dressing the Bump in the Second Trimester

19 weeks and my little nugget is starting to make an appearance! As you can tell, my outfit posts have shrunk since I have gained about 7 pounds and I am not going to lie, I am pretty uncomfortable which reflects how I dress.
